Mission Statement

  Sociologists for Women in Society (SWS) is a international, non-profit, scientific and educational organization of sociologists and others dedicated to:

  • maximizing the effectiveness of and professional opportunities for women in sociology
  • exploring the contributions which sociology can, does, and should make to the investigation of and humanization of current gender arrangements
  • improving women's lives and creating feminist social change.

Organizational Goals

  1. Foster activism FOR women (related to the scholarship/expertise/skills we can offer)
  2. Increase organizational inclusiveness and ACTIVE participation
  3. Build strength, increase influence in the discipline and on campuses for feminist scholarship and activism

  There are local and regional chapters of SWS, including our chapter in Tallahassee, Florida.
